Why Does My Vehicle Need an Oil Change?

Whether it's powered by diesel or gasoline, the engine inside your vehicle contains numerous moving metal components. Without proper lubrication, these components would rub against each other, leading to damage from friction. This is where engine oil comes in. Oil is a lubricant, and it helps keep your engine from suffering this damage. But oil doesn't stand up well to the extreme heat produced by your engine, so it will eventually begin to degrade. When this happens, it will no longer be as capable of lubricating the engine. What Makes Diesel Oil Different from Regular Oil?

Even if you were to find oil for a gas engine that had the right viscosity for your diesel, it would still be bad to use it. Diesel oil has powerful anti-wear additives that are needed to keep the engine in good shape. These additives would be too much for the catalytic converter of any gas-powered car that might get diesel oil, and it also means that regular engine oil wouldn't have what it takes to prevent wear in your diesel engine.
