What Is Brake Fluid and Why Do You Need It?

Most fluids in a vehicle regulate the temperature in a respective area of the automobile. While brake fluid does regulate the high temperatures that can occur in the brake lines, it is also an operational component of the braking system.

Understanding how brake fluid works is actually quite simple. When the driver presses the brake pedal, it depresses a piston in the brake calipers. This forces the brake fluid into action causing the brake pads to compress on the tire. Once the pressure from the brake fluid compresses the brake pads, the tires begin to slow down until the driver releases the brake pedal.

Brake fluid is an integral part of the braking system and must be kept at the required level at all times. Brake fluid can break down over time causing the braking system to underperform or fail. Brake fluid should be changed by our dealership every one or two years.
